Individual 3D Project (Toothbrush Holder)
For the 3D individual print project I decided to do a toothbrush holder, because it seemed to be the most useful of the three options. While coming up with the initial plan I decided I wanted to keep it simple, so I went with a cylinder shape with four holes to hold up to four toothbrushes.
The guide lines for maker bot is that it has to be under a foot to print, so I made the the cylinder seven inches tall. I made the circle five inches in diameter, and the holes .5 inches in diameter because toothbrushes are thin. Each hole is 5.5 inches deep, because the average height of a toothbrush was 7.5 inches, so I left two inches for the head of the brush to stick out. I then saved the file, and opened it on maker bot. After resizing it, it was ready to be printed. The print took about 13 hours because the printer had to fill in the cylinder for most of the project. After picking up my print the next day, I brought it home to make sure the tooth brushes would fit in it.
To conclude, this was a fun project because I was able to make something I use everyday. In doing so, I also learned that you can extrude more than one thing at a time in inventor.
